Library FAQs
What is the Steely Library Textbook Affordability Program?
Answer
Steely Library's Textbook Affordability Program aims to provide access to course materials for students and alleviate the financial burden of textbook purchasing. Through this program, the library provides access to electronic copies of your course textbook to students. Below are some frequently asked questions and information that might help.
Why is there a priority deadline for this form on December 3rd, and why does the form close on December 10th?
The December 3rd priority deadline for the form enables Steely Library to ensure requested materials will be available on the first day of classes for students. Requests will still be accepted and reviewed through December 10th, but we cannot guarantee that material will be available on the first day of classes. The December 10th deadline ensures that textbook sourcing and ordering can be accomplished around the holiday season and in early January.
How many textbooks can I request for my course?
Instructors are able to request up to four textbooks per form submission for the same course. If an instructor requires different textbooks for multiple courses, they will need to perform multiple form submissions.
What dictates whether my textbook request will be accepted/fulfilled?
Steely Library will work to accept and fulfill requests on a first-come first-serve basis until funding for TAP SP26 has run out. It is possible that Steely Library will be unable to purchase a textbook (digital or print format) for a variety of reasons. We will contact any instructor who requested a textbook and explain why we were unable to fulfill a request. Additionally, physical textbook requests are discouraged for instructors teaching a course in an online-only modality.
When will I know that my request is being fulfilled and when will I know that the materials are available for students?
Steely Library will reach out to instructors via email to communicate that their request has been accepted and fulfilled once the textbook has been ordered. Additionally, another email will be sent to instructors to communicate when materials are available and how instructors and students can access them.
