How do I book a consultation with a librarian?

Answer

From the Steely Library homepage, use the Meet button in the Get Help ribbon to access our Meet with a Librarian page.

Undergraduates

As an undergraduate student you can choose to (A) view our full consultation calendar or (B) identify a specific librarian to meet with using our Undergraduate Consultation dropdown list.

Logging in

In either instance, you will be prompted to log into the Navigate booking system using your NKU credentials. Note: booking times are only viewable to undergraduate students; available times only show outside of scheduled classes.

Locating booking options

After logging into Navigate you may see your list of Appointments for all student services such as UCAP and advising. To book an appointment with a librarian click the Click to Get Assistance button.

Under ‘What type of appointment would you like to schedule’ choose Student Support. Under ‘Service’ choose Research Consultation. Click Find Available Time.

Find a timeslot

Available time slots will appear based on your current class schedule and librarian availability. Pick a time slot.

Finalize details

Review and finalize the appointment details.

Choose whether you’d like to meet in person, virtually, or over the phone under ‘How would you like to meet?’

Optionally, share information about your research needs and how you’d like to receive reminders. Click Schedule.

Confirmation

You will receive an automatic confirmation email from the librarian with whom you scheduled the consultation. If you booked a virtual meeting, the librarian will follow up with you directly with a virtual meeting link.

You will also receive an automatic email requesting the completion of a short list of pre-appointment questions. The questions, which are optional, include:

  • Please describe your research assignment and/or research question.
  • For which class is this research?
  • What is your motivation for signing up for a research consultation?
  • Is there anything else you’d like to share with your librarian before your consultation?

Graduates

As a graduate student you can request a consultation using the consultation request form

Fill out the form

You are asked to include:

  • Full name (required)
  • NKU email address (required)
  • Please specify which course this research is for (e.g., DNP 800), and provide the name of your professor. (optional)
  • Describe your research topic and what you hope to learn in your consultation. (required)
  • Additional information, such as the assignment file, can be uploaded here. (optional)
  • How you would like to meet (virtually or in person) (required)
  • Your preferred meeting times (required)
  • Anything else you would like the librarian to know (optional)

Await an email from a librarian

Within 24 hours (during the work week) a librarian will email your NKU email address to finalize the scheduled meeting.
