How do I access eBooks?

Answer

When accessing eBooks through Steely Library, there are three ways to read your selected material:

  1. Read Online
    • Through an active web connection, read the entire book online.
    • If the book has a limited number of simultaneous users (1 to 3), additional users will need to wait until the previous user has logged off/stopped reading the book. Check the details of the eBook to know specific limitations.
  2. Download a portion of an eBook to permanently keep
    • Each PDF file can only cover a chapter or a portion of the book. To see specifics, see the book's main entry page.
    • The page limit for downloads is attached to each username/login and should reset after a period (24 hours or more). This can allow users to download multiple pages/chapters over a period of time.
  3. Borrow the eBook by downloading it to view in Adobe Digital Editions.
    • Regardless of platform, you will be able to access your eBook through Adobe Digital Editions for as long as the vendor makes it available. See this linked FAQ for information on downloading Adobe Digital Editions.
    • Depending on the database platform, the download and access process will vary slightly. See our linked FAQs on EBSCO and ProQuest for platform specific instructions.
